Important differences in surface contour between bezier and subdivision surface

This tutorial discusses what happens when converting a bezier surface to a polygon mesh which is destined to be a subdivision surface object. There is a surface contour shift that can be important to take into consideration. This discussion shows this shift.

Project Component: Part 1—Modeling the back leg of a mid-century modern chair

This is the first part of a 3-part modeling tutorial for the chair by mid-century modernist Jean Prouve. This tutorial walks through the modeling of the back leg of the chair. It uses primitives, custom grids and guides, flatten operations and hard edges to create an elegant model that subdivides very predictably.

A Fast Twisted Bar Model

This is another way to model a twisted bar. This tutorial series grew from a discussion on the Strata cafe forums, where I recommended this method, which is very fast and direct. In order to achieve my desired result as quickly as possible, I move between the polygon mesh editor and the spline editing tools in the main modeling space. This is a slightly unusual approach you may not have tried yet.

Creating twisted iron

This modeling tutorial shows how to create a twisted iron model, something similar to what would be seen in a twisted iron fence or railing. The first section shows the basic approach, the second shows how to also generate usable UV's.
