Joseph Campbell and Mythology Degree Program
Pacifica Graduate Institute Comparative Mythologies Graduate StudiesA university graduate degree in Mythological Studies is offered at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Mythologist, teacher Joseph Campbell influenced the school and program. I write my paper about Mythology Degree Program. The late Joseph Campbell, famous comparative mythologist, professor at Sarah Lawrence College, and author of influential books on mythology like The Hero with a Thousand Faces, The Power of Myth, and The Masks of God, heavily influenced Pacifica Graduate Institute and its university program in Mythological Studies.
Joseph Campbell and Pacifica Graduate InstitutePacifica Graduate Institute, an accredited graduate school located in Carpinteria, California, a few miles from Santa Barbara, was founded in 1976. Joseph Campbell was a strong early supporter of the institute, offering advice and recommendations to the school’s founders. Campbell was also a frequent guest lecturer and presenter at Pacifica. After Joseph Campbell died in 1987, his widow, Jean Erdman Campbell, and the Joseph Campbell Foundation donated his personal collection and library, consisting of books, papers, art, photos, audio and video tapes, and personal mementos to the Center for the Study of Depth Psychology, a non-profit organization located on the Pacifica Graduate Institute campus. The center has since been renamed the OPUS Archives and Research Center. Dr. Jonathan Young, who assisted Joseph Campbell at seminars and later served as founding curator of the Joseph Campbell Collection, was instrumental in creating the Mythological Studies graduate program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Young served as chair of the Mythological Studies department.

Pacifica Graduate Institute MA, PhD in MythologyInspired heavily by Joseph Campbell, Pacifica Graduate Institute’s integrated Master of Arts and doctorate university program in mythology is a unique college degree that offers students the chance to study mythologies, folklore, fairy tales, religions, native belief systems, psychology, and philosophy, along with culture and literature. Joseph Campbell’s lifework and vision of gleaning invaluable information about the workings of the psyche from various fields, including mythology, anthropology, literature, and art history, are alive and well at Pacifica.
