Adaptive Shadow Sampling and 8.0
Adaptive Shadow Sampling allows the renderer to save time by adaptively lowering render quality parameters in dim shadow areas. This can save quite a bit of time in some scene, but can also introduce artifacts if set too high. This tutorial discusses how the gamma function in 8.0 can necessitate different values as compared to 7.x START file
